Don Cherry rips Leafs’ toughness, says they’ll never win the Stanley Cup

In case you missed it this past weekend, legendary Hockey Night in Canada broadcaster Don Cherry sounded off on the Toronto Maple Leafs during his Coach’s Corner segment and… well it’s an all time classic Grapes rant.

For the record, the St. Louis Blues did in fact have the most Canadians on their roster of any team in the NHL and… well last I check they’re the reigning Stanley Cup champions. So… is Grapes on to something here? Do the Leafs need more toughness? Do they need more Canadians specifically? 

How about the Boston Bruins, the team who was just one win away from hoisting the Cup this past June? They had fewer Canadians on their team than Americans, are they just not tough enough? Or maybe… just maaaaaybe Grapes needs to wake up and realize that “toughness” now comes in all varieties and nationalities. There are tough Canadians in the NHL to be sure, but there are also tough Americans, Russians, Swedes, Finns, Czechs and so on down the line.
