In case you missed it, Vancouver Canucks super rookie Elias Pettersson left last Thursday night’s contest against the Montreal Canadiens after getting tangled up with fellow rookie Jesperi Kotkaniemi and falling down awkwardly on his knee.

Here’s the play in question:

Pettersson, who is running away in the Calder Trophy race as the NHL’s top rookie this season, left the ice under his own power and had an MRI this past weekend that confirmed he did not break, sprain or tear any muscles. He’s out of the team’s lineup for now, but his injury isn’t expected to be long-term.

On Saturday night the Canucks were in Toronto to take on the Maple Leafs for CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada broadcast and you know what that means… Grapes. Legendary broadcaster Don Cherry weighed in on the Pettersson injury and claimed that the young superstar was “looking for trouble” which ultimately led to his injury.

Check it out:

“He was looking for trouble there and it wouldn’t have happened. He’s got to stop looking for trouble because if you do that in the National Hockey League, you’ll find it.”

Earlier today though, Cherry was on Vancouver’s Sportsnet 650 radio and compared Pettersson with The Great One Wayne Gretzky, but also doubled down on his comments about Pettersson “looking for trouble.”

So which is it, Grapes!? You a fan of this kid or what?
