According to a report from TSN’s Bob McKenzie earlier today the New Jersey Devils are on the verge of signing RFA defenseman Damon Severson to a massive new contract.

Check it out:

While $25 million across six seasons is a lot of money, that’s actually a pretty good deal for the 23-year-old defender. If Severson can stay on track and put up 30+ points regularly, the $4.1 million average annual cap hit will be a steal for the Devils.

With Severson’s signing the only remaining RFA defensemen left unsigned are the Colorado Avalanche’s Nikita Zadorov and the St. Louis Blues’ Petteri Lindbohm. Of course, more high profile RFA forwards are out there, Boston Bruins sniper David Pastrnak and Detroit Red Wings speedster Andreas Athanasiou among them, but with just six RFAs left on the market, things are finally coming together in advance of the 2017-18 NHL season.
