Down Goes Brown perfectly predicted the downfall of the Lightning in January.

This is scary good.

You can put this one right next to all the scarily accurate predictions of the future you've seen in your lifetime.

National Hockey League writer Sean McIndoe, better known by his online moniker of "Down Goes Brown" made predictions about what he felt were the 10 strongest teams in the National Hockey League all the way back in January. What Down Goes Brown was trying to do hear was find legitimate concerns or weaknesses for each of those overachieving teams, to see if he could find a way in which those teams could end up faltering down the stretch. What was interesting about this particular article from Down Goes Brown was that the number 1 team in the National Hockey League, the Tampa Bay Lightning, got the worst of it from him.

For whatever reason it seemed like Down Goes Brown had much more ammo to spend regarding the Lightning and that resulted in what now looks like a really accurate and scarily good prediction about the eventual downfall of the Lightning. Keep in mind that this was originally published back in January, Down Goes Brown did not have the benefit of knowing everything that we know now.

His prediction regarding the Lightning in full and unedited:

OK, fine, here goes. You’re a talented team but you’ve peaked too early. You’ll have nothing to play for down the stretch which means you’ll have to readjust to meaningful hockey on the fly against a wild-card team that finished strong and might be Sidney Crosby and the Penguins. Your goalie isn’t as good as everyone thinks he is this year, Steven Stamkos will let you down in the playoffs yet again, Victor Hedman will get hurt and you’re going to lose in the first round in what everyone will call a massive upset even though it really isn’t. All your amazing first half will have accomplished is making sure that the 2018-19 Lightning are remembered as among the greatest chokers in league history. Then you’re going to hit the summer and realize that you’re about to enter cap hell and that you have a rookie GM who’s never run an offseason while the savant who actually built the team takes over a division rival.

What is so insane about this prediction is not only how much he got right, but the fact that even the facts he got wrong add to how amazing this really is. You'll notice that the one thing he gets blatantly wrong here is the Lightning's first round opponent, but he quite clearly uses the words "might be" before that particular detail. There is no "might be" before his prediction regarding Stamkos, or before his prediction regarding Hedman, or the fact that the Lightning would in fact be eliminated in the first round. Hell even the detail about them being remembered as the greatest chokers in league history is spot on when you consider than many have called the sweep of the Lightning one of the great upsets in Stanley Cup Playoff history, if not the greatest.

This is not particularly relevant news at this time, but this one was so good I just felt the need to share it with all of you. Oh and a huge shout out to Down Goes Brown for nailing this one.
