The Red Wings sit higher in this year’s NHL Entry Draft than they have in a generation. That means Detroit will have a much wider field of potential talents to choose from this offseason than usual, and 18-year-old Owen Tippett should be getting considerable attention.

Tippett is a 6’2, 203 lbs power forward who shoots right-handed, and boy what a shot it is!

He notched 44 goals and 75 points in 60 games with the OHL’s Mississauga Steelheads this season, and added 10 more goals (and 19 points) in 20 post-season games.

The Peterborough, Ontario native is ranked in or near the top 10 rookie prospects available in 2017 NHL Draft, and he looks like a great fit for Detroit, who picks 9th in the first round.

The Red Wings are short on right-handed shooters, and his willingness to play the corners and  the dirty areas on the ice make Tippett a very enticing prospect.
