It’s not exactly a secret that Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas has been trying to trade veteran Patrick Marleau and his onerous $6.25 million contract. Or… is he?

Despite reports that the Leafs and the Los Angeles Kings have engaged in trade talks regarding Marleau, NHL insider Chris Johnston reports that Marleau may not be going anywhere.

Uh… how? Pending RFA Mitch Marner needs a new contract and he doesn’t appear to be budging on his demands anytime soon. Something’s got to give and with Marleau at 39 years old, he seems like the most likely to bite the bullet. But, does Dubas see it that way?

Stay tuned, Leafs fans.
