Dumba “in a state of shock” after latest update from doctors.

The Minnesota Wild have just provided a devastating update on the status of star defenseman Matt Dumba.

According to a report from from Minnesota Wild insider Mike Russo of The Athletic, Dumba will now need to undergo a surgical procedure to repair the damage he suffered last week when the Wild faced off against the Calgary Flames. Although the Wild have never officially acknowledged how Dumba suffered the injury it has been widely speculated that it occurred during an altercation between Dumba and Calgary Flames agitator Matthew Tkachuk. The two men dropped the gloves early in the first period of their Saturday night match up, a grudge match between the two squads, and although he would remain in the game initially Dumba would exit a few shifts after the fight.

Russo's source on the story is none other than Minnesota Wild general manager Paul Fenton, so there's no doubting the accuracy of his report, and according to Fenton it now sounds like this is a rather serious injury. Fenton informed Russo that Dumba will be out for a significant time, although he would not get into a specific time frame regarding Dumba's recovery. He did however admit that the team had a general time frame in mind but would wait until the surgical procedure before making any statement in that regard.

Perhaps the most damning information to come from Fenton were his comments on how Dumba himself was dealing with the news from doctors. If you for some reason are convinced of the fact that this injury is not all that serious then listen to how Paul Fenton describes how Dumba is dealing with all of this right now.

“[He] is in a state of shock. He’s visibly upset,” said Fenton.

Dumba is not only one of the locker room leaders for the Wild, as well as a long tenured member of the organization, he has arguably been the best player out on the ice for the Wild on numerous occasions during the 2018 - 2019 NHL regular season. Any absence from Dumba would be significant, but in this particular case it sounds like we may be talking a very long term absence indeed at that is nothing short of devastating.
