In Team USA's final exhibition game prior to the start of the World Cup of Hockey, head coach John Tortorella made the decision to make Winnipeg Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien play at forward.

Putting an All-Star level defenseman at forward would seem counter-intuative to most, but Tortorella did his best to explain himself.

“We’re still trying to make some decisions on where people fit and in our mind we always felt Buff was kind of a wild card moving into a couple of different positions, so we’ll see,” Tortorella said as per the Associated Press.

Byfgulien however did not seem to enjoy the experiment, and was also given very limited ice time in a fourth line checking role, although he did make his impact felt when he crushed the Penguins' Olli Maatta with a monster hit.

“It’s definitely not my favorite spot,” Byfuglien said of being switched to forward. “It’s just something they wanted to try and that was it.”

It sounds like this is one experiment that will be very short lived.
