The National Hockey League has just made a very interesting move, one that could potential mean great things for jersey enthusiasts.

As many of you have probably noticed it's relatively rare that we get to see a National Hockey League franchise make a truly drastic change to their jersey designs, and probably for very good reasons. Long time fans of a franchise are obviously very invested in their team color and logos and the risk of disenfranchising those fans is understandably a price that most of those franchises really have no interest in paying should things go wrong.

Now however there may be a new way to test new jersey designs with little to no risk to the teams all the while getting excellent market data regarding those new designs directly from the National Hockey League's most hardcore fans. I must admit not only am I completely surprised by this move from the National Hockey League, but I honestly think it's one of the best ideas they've had in a very long time.

Two of the National Hockey League's most important partners, game developer EA Sports and clothing designer Adidas, have entered into a brilliant partnership in which the two companies will work together to create all new jersey designs in the digital world for EA Sports' NHL series of games. The move will create a brand new series of jerseys inside of EA's digital world, jerseys that fans will be able to access from within the game and jerseys that they will be able to assign to their favorite teams.

Unsurprisingly EA Sports and Adidas have begun this endeavor with both and an old and a new take on the jerseys belonging National Hockey League's original six teams and I must admit the results so far look pretty cool. The jerseys look pretty good and although they are only a first endeavor on this front you can imagine that if this proves to be successful we may get a lot more of these in the future and for a variety of different teams in the NHL.

This could turn out to be a new way for the NHL to test radically different jersey designs in the future.
