Early rumors of a blockbuster move coming from the Golden Knights.

The Las Vegas Golden Knights shocked the hockey world yesterday when they got a deal done to acquire  Vadim Shipachyov of the Kontinental Hockey League, but that may just be the beginning of their surprises.

As we all know by now former National Hockey League star Ilya Kovalchuk is looking to make his return to North America, and while the Golden Knights were not among the three teams rumored to be in contention, the acquisition of Kovalchuk's former teammate could give them the inside track.

After the announcement of the Shipachyov signing, TSN's Dustin Nielson pointed to this very fact and he's speculated on a potential reunion between the two KHL star forwards.

If you're a new NHL franchise and you're looking to sell a market on your commitment to fielding a competitive team, acquiring a player like Ilya Kovalchuk could certainly do the trick.
