The Minnesota Wild’s search for a new general manager got somewhat controversial on Tuesday when the team held an interview with a current NHL general manager, Don Waddell the GM of the Carolina Hurricanes. Last week Paul Fenton was fired from his position in Minnesota.

However, another Eastern Conference team is drawing attention after refusing to let the Wild interview one of his staff member.

According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the New York Rangers did not agree to let the Wild get in touch with assistant general manager Chris Drudy.

Friedman also points that the Rangers also rebuffed the Buffalo Sabres when they asked to speak with Drury when they had an opening.

The Wild did manage to get permission from the Pittsburgh Penguins to talk with assistant GM Bill Guerin. The Wild is also believed to have held interviews with former Philadelphia Flyers GM Ron Hextall and Peter Chiarelli.

I guess the Rangers have specific plans for Drury and he needs to stay put.
