We have some shocking and sad news to report.

According to a report from Postmedia's Derek Van Diest 25 year old Edmonton Oilers forward Colby Cave has died. The news from Van Diest was reported after he was provided with a statement from Colby Cave's family in which they confirmed that he had passed.

Just a few short days ago the Edmonton Oilers had announced that Cave had been placed in a medically induced coma in an effort to better treat his condition, it seems those efforts however have failed.

Oilers forward Colby Cave has been placed in a medically-induced coma & admitted to the critical care unit at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto after suffering a brain bleed overnight. Please keep Colby & his wife Emily in your thoughts & prayers at this time.

Cave was in hospital and placed in the medically induced coma as a result of brain bleeding he was suffering, the result of an attempt to remove a colloid cyst from his brain, a surgical procedure that presumably went wrong. Cave was in the critical care unit at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto and although that no doubt provided him with the best possible care for his injuries it also had a tragic result as well. Cave's entire family, including his wife Emily, was prevented from seeing him in his final days due to the current medical crisis overwhelming facilities around the globe.

Just the other day wife Emily published this heart-wrenching message on social media:

Please wake up. Please wake up. It’s all I can keep asking, “he’s going to wake up right?” We need a miracle. Colby’s parents and myself, got to see him through a window and talk to him with a walkie talkie last night. We are no longer allowed to be in the hospital because Covid-19 rules. We have no idea when we will be allowed to see him again. The nurse has tied his wedding band to his ankle. I am dreaming of being able to touch you, hear your voice, squeeze your hand (3 times), and kiss you again. I love you so much, and my heart is shattered into a million pieces without my best friend ?✨ Out of difficulties grows miracles- 1 Peter 5:10

The message published by Emily just yesterday is even more heartbreaking:

I’m waiting for you, Colb ? I always make you wait so now it is my turn to wait for you. I made you wait years before going out on a date with you. I made you wait at the altar. I make you wait every day when I’m rushing to get ready. I make you wait until I decide what I want to eat. Chester makes you wait until he wants to pee in crappy weather or play fetch late hours of the night. The list could go on. You always wait for us, so now we’re waiting for you. However long it takes, I’m waiting for you. You can do it, you can be a miracle. You need to be a miracle. I know you can. I’m so proud to be your wife, Colby Cave. I love you so much. I always will.

Our thoughts go out to both Colby and Emily's loved ones at this impossibly difficult time.
