Edmonton suspect has defrauded Oilers fans with fake McDavid signatures!
Global News

After arresting and charging a man with fraud, police now believes there may be people who have bought Edmonton Oilers jerseys with fake Connor McDavid signatures.

Police allege a man claiming to be from the Edmonton Oilers Entertainment Group (OEG) or Pro Am Sports was selling authentic jerseys with fraudulent McDavid signatures online. The accused in the case is Chandra Vinesh Singh, who police said is also known to go by Vinesh Singh or Vinny. He is 23 years old.

“Connor McDavid himself did confirm through the Oilers organization that [the signature] is not his,” Const. Derek Burns, one of the investigators on the case, said Thursday to CTV News.

Vinesh Singh is said to have contacted people by social media, claiming he was employed by either OEG or Pro Am Sports and was selling autographed McDavid jerseys. Legitimate signed McDavid jerseys sell for $1,600 through Pro Am Sports.

Police say Singh allegedly sold two fraudulently signed jerseys for $1,400. The buyer in that case was Tyler Lickoch. The victim had gone to high school with Singh and had previously purchased Oilers tickets from him without incident. However, when he purchased one of his autographed jersey by McDavid, Lickoch knew something was wrong and demanded a refund. He also contacted the police.

Then in February 2019, police say a man proposed an “investment opportunity” to someone via Facebook messenger and said he had a batch of signed McDavid jerseys, including “authentication” paperwork, he could offload for $350 each and have the victim resell for $700.
The man allegedly collected $23,000, but never provided the jerseys.
