It certainly makes you wonder...

You would think that $80 million is a lot of money, a hefty deal that forward Jack Eichel agreed to with the Buffalo Sabres, who offered him an eight-year contract extension on Tuesday.

But surprisingly enough, Eichel's agent Peter Fish said that the 20-year-old chose to take less money to allow the Sabres more room to make moves under the salary cap, according to John Wawrow of the Associated Press.

"It was important for Jack to get a deal done that was friendly for both sides and would not hamstring the Sabres going forward," Fish added while speaking to the Buffalo News

How much more were the Sabres planning on offering their star forward? No one knows. What is clear is that Evander Kane, Sam Reinhart and Robin Lehner are amongst the players Buffalo will need to offer new deals next summer.

We can certainly appreciate the unselfish move by the face of the Sabres' franchise - but $80 million surely makes it easier to do so...
