The Carolina Hurricanes have been trying to move veteran defenseman Justin Faulk to the Anaheim Ducks for the past week, however, the former team’s captain had been holding up the move as he was hoping to get talks going on a contract extension with the team before accepting the trade.

However, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported on Tuesday that the deal now appears to be dead. Friedman stated that the trade is reportedly off the table since Faulk could not get an extension of his liking from the Ducks.

When the trade chatter first erupted it was believed that  the return for the 27-year-old Faulk was Ondrej Kase, which would have been a steal for the Hurricanes. The 23-year-old Kase put up 11 goals and 20 points in just 30 games with the Ducks last season and put up 20 goals in just 66 games a season ago.

However, Faulk held the bigger end of the bat in the potential transaction, having waived his no-move clause and it seems like he might have won this round.

Pierre LeBrun of TSN had however mentioned last week that other teams have upped their trade interest in Faulk. LeBrun had not mentioned which team has been showing interest, but there might be a way for the Hurricanes to get another deal done before the start of the season. On Wednesday morning, LeBrun added that the Winnipeg Jets are believed to be on Faulk’s approved trade list.
