Eric Staal overcome with emotion in return to Carolina.

It was clear on Thursday night that the decision to waive his no-trade clause and go play for the New York Rangers was not an easy one for former Carolina Hurricanes captain Eric Staal.

The Hurricanes did a good job of honoring their former captain, playing a highlight reel video of his time in Carolina and giving the fans plenty of time to express their gratitude for his years of play on the ice, his work in the community, and his role as a role model for many young people in the area.

It was during those cheers from the fans, that went on for a lengthy period of time, that the cracks in Staal's normally stoic face began to show. It was clear that Staal was trying his very hardest to choke back his emotions, and it made for a wonderful moment for both the fans and Staal.
