Hockey fans have often had a contentious relationship with ESPN due to the network's lack of coverage when it comes to National Hockey League, so when their reporters take controversial positions it often leads to a ton of backlash.

Depsite that the staff at ESPN has never shied away from controversy, and on Tuesday they once again stirred the pot when they named Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby, one of the faces of the NHL, the "biggest disappointment" of the 2017-2018 NHL regular season so far.

From ESPN:

Crosby has six goals and 10 assists in 22 games. Those numbers would be fine for anyone not named Sidney Crosby, as the Penguins star has averaged over a point per game in every season of his career. He's been on the ice for 13 more even-strength goals against than goals for this season.

That being said fans in Pittsburgh likely aren't all that concerned just yet, Crosby has had significant slumps in his career before and he has always managed to find a way to bounce back and return to superstar status.

However the sheer amount of hockey the Penguins have played over the past two seasons, including back to back Stanley Cup Championship runs in the hardest playoff format in sports, may be finally taking it's toll on both Crosby and his fellow Penguins.

Do you agree with ESPN's assesment that Crosby is the biggest dissappointment of the season thus far? If not who would you put in that position?
