This is certainly a very interesting offseason development.

Recently National Hockey League analyst Jonathan Davis was a guest on Siruis/XM NHL Network radio where he shared his opinion on a variety of topics. Now I must admit that I don't follow Davis' work personally but it was clear after his segment was over on the show that there were some who took issue with some of his comments. Specifically there were some users who found themselves disturbed by the comments Davis had made reharding the character of San Jose Sharks star forward Evander Kane.

One person who tuned in to the segment was quick to call out Davis on social media following the radio hit, a radio hit that this particular listener would go on to describe as "racist" in its nature. Now to be clear I am not making this characterization myself, but it is relevant to the discussion as Davis himself would later reply to the accusations of racism. The user in question took issue with Davis describing Kane as a "loose cannon" while simultaneously making flattering comments regarding former Sharks captain Joe Pavelski

Davis quickly responded on social media and issued an outright denial against the accusations. Instead Davis claimed that the comments he had made regarding Kane's character and locker room issues were the result of insider knowledge. For the sake of preserving Davis' original intent here is his response to the accusations unedited and in full:

My criticism of Kane has nothing to do of his skin color but based on  first hand knowledge as well as information from players, coaches and agents.
The same with Pavelski. I have covered SJ for a decade. He always displayed leadership qualities.

That is of course all well and good and if the NHL Network was having Davis on as a guest I would highly doubt that they would allow him to go on any kind of racist tirade during his segment. That being said it seems that not everyone is currently buying what Davis is peddling, as he received a rather interesting response on Saturday. Firing back at Davis and his claims of "first hand knowledge" Evander Kane took to social media himself and called out Davis for what Kane presumably believes is nonsense.
