Evander Kane finds a way to shut down his haters with great off-ice move

Controversy has had a way of finding Evander Kane throughout his career. When his appears in the press for off-ice reasons, it’s not usually due to his humanitarianism. That’s why it was refreshing to see Kane lauded on social media this afternoon for announcing his sponsorship of underprivileged children through advocacy organization World Vision.

It’s a generous and selfless action by a player who has been called selfish and self-centred by fans, media and teammates for years. The 25 year-old Buffalo Sabres forward has sparked controversy on social media before with his infamous “money phone” shots on Instagram and Snapchat story of him partying it up at the 2016 NBA All-Star Game. Then, of course, there was his arrest and subsequent acquittal in an alleged sexual assault.

Sabres fans hope that Kane can be a contributor for a team that could desperately use his skill and scoring touch next season. In 70 games this season with the Sabres, Kane produced 28 goals and 43 points with 113 penalty minutes. The bruising winger has shown flashes of total dominance in the past, but his consistency has been lacking which many critics point to as a result of his lack of commitment. Whatever the case and however you feel about the controversial player, you have to tip your cap for his initiative with World Vision.
