Being a first pick in any draft has to be one of the most unique experience offered to any hockey player. You get a confirmation that you're the best player in the world available to be picked at this very moment. Some first pick develop beautifully, such as Auston Matthews or Sidney Crosby. Some have a very different story to tell however.

Alexandre Daigle was expected to become the new superstar of the league. During his last complete season with his junior team in Victoriaville, he scored an amazing 137 points in 53 games. Some even told he could become the next Gretzky at that point! He was picked first overall by the Ottawa Senators and things turned ugly.

He scored a decent 51 points in his first complete season with the Senators, but he lost his magic touch afterward. He was traded multiple time and quit the NHL to join the Swiss-A league in 2006-2007. A lot of people were left perplexed by such a turn of event, from a promising prospect to an utter failure.

TVA Sport interviewed him about how his parents were the target of nasty comments and why he lost his touch. He told the world that his parents had nothing to do with it. They gave him everything he needed at all time and worked hard for him to have the chance to get to the big league. He also said the major part of his downfall came with repetitive depressive spells and that he didn't seek the help he needed in time. He declined steadily, not by a lack of talent but with a slow and painful dive into mental health issues.

Nowadays he tells a very different story, living happily and chasing his other dreams.
