The Detroit Red Wings are facing a familiar problem and many are looking at the team's coaching staff for answers.

After the departure of Mike Babcock the reigns of the Red Wings coaching staff were handed over to Jeff Blashill, but his first season was mired by controversy. The team struggled and had notable failures in terms of power play conversion and that prompted action from general manager Ken Holland who made changes to Blashill's assistants while keeping the head coach himself.

Despite those changes the Red Wings are once again among the very worst in the National Hockey League when it comes to converting on the power play. and this month they have just one power play goal over 24 attempts, abysmal numbers. How much of the blame should land on Blashill as opposed to his aging roster is hard to say, but fans in Detroit won't be interested in hearing excuses if they miss the playoff for the first time since the 90s.

The Wings are currently 6th in their division, only two points ahead of the Buffalo Sabres who currently sit in last place, and if they can't get their power play to a level where it's ranked above 29th in the league, that playoff streak seems likely to be coming to an end.
