2016-2017 marks the “Farewell Season at the Joe” for the Detroit Red Wings, who have been playing at the Joe Louis Arenas since 1979. 37 years later, that same team will host their final regular season home opener as they face off against the red-hot Ottawa Senators (2-0-0).

There have been lots of ups and downs through the Red Wings’ historical legacy at the Joe. Four Stanley Cup championships were won in 1997, 1998, 2002 and more recently, in 2008. Many legendary players such as Steve Yzerman, Nicklas Lidstrom, and the late great “Mr. Hockey” himself Gordie Howe have had the honour and privilege of wearing the red and white jersey that has become a hallmark across the National Hockey League.

Tonight, a struggling Red Wings team will look to forever solidify itself within the history books.
