The Montreal Canadiens are one of the biggest surprises in the NHL this season. After falling flat on their faces last season and ending up near the bottom of league standings, Habs general manager Marc Bergevin made significant changes to his roster this past offseason and now has his team back in the playoff hunt.

While superstar goaltender Carey Price deserves a lot of the credit, new guys Max Domi and Tomas Tatar have also been key contributors for the team this season. One player though who doesn’t receive nearly the attention that he deserves though is defenseman Jeff Petry. The 31 year old blue liner has 9 goals and 30 points in just 44 games and is on pace to absolutely shatter his career high of 12 goals and 42 points established last season.

Petry’s biggest fan, his father Dan Petry, has noticed the change in his son and attributes it to the environment around the team this season. Specifically, winning games. Go figure… life is more fun when you’re winning! The elder Petry also couldn’t help himself from taking a light hearted jab at Petry’s former team, the Edmonton Oilers.

Check out this quote from Dan Petry, courtesy of La Presse’s Guillaume Lefrancois:

I mean… he’s not wrong! The Oilers have maybe, MAYBE, figured things out recently, but there’s no denying the fact that when Petry was with the organization (2010-2015) they were an absolute train wreck. Granted the Habs haven’t won anything of significance with Petry on board, but it’s easy to understand where Dan is coming from. He’s a proud Papa who just wants to see his son succeed!
