Fifth round NHL draft pick is named college hockey's best player.

A fifth round draft selection has taken college hockey by storm.

On Friday Will Butcher was named the 2016-2017 Hobey Bakey Award winner as college hockey's most valuable player, beating out Zach Aston-Resse whom many considered the favorite to win the award.

This has to be incredibly satisfying for Butcher who was only selected in the fifth round of the 2014 National Hockey League Entry Draft having been passed on by every single team in the league before the Colorado Avalanche selected him.

Butcher, a 22-year-old defenseman, is coming off an incredible season that saw him record 7 goals and 30 assists for 37 points in 47 games.
