Finally some news on free agents Hoffman and Granlund!

The National Hockey League’s free-agent market has been open for close to two months and still top forward Mike Hoffman remains available for teams across the league, and he’s not the only one… Sami Vatanen, Travis Hamonic, Mikael Granlund and Anthony Duclair and Zdeno Chara are also still without deals for the upcoming season. 

There has been some movement since Hoffman became a free agent, however, he is reportedly not getting the numbers he is seeking as the most coveted UFA forward available. While Tyler Toffoli signed for an annual average value of 4.25 million on a four-year contract in Montreal and Evgenii Dadonov for a three-year, $5 million deal in Ottawa, TSN reporter Frank Seravalli recently reported that Hoffman is looking to get a deal with an annual value of $5.5 to $ 6.5 million per season, depending on the length of the contract. Hoffman is reportedly not getting the numbers he is seeking as the most coveted UFA forward available. It is now believed that Hoffman has gotten 13 teams interested in signing him, though the financial math might be too complicated for some of these clubs to do in order to respect the flattened salary cap. On Tuesday night, Andy Strickland of Fox Sports reported some news in the case of Hoffman, revealing that the Nashville Predators have good chances of landing him, the Preds who are also in the mix for Granlund. However, Hoffman looks like a better fit. 

It is not the first time the Predators are said to be working at getting Hoffman inked in Nashville. Last week, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman also confirmed GM David Poile was looking at signing the free agent. 

While he might have considered bringing back Granlund, Strickland now reports the Columbus Blue Jackets and Carolina Hurricanes remain the two landing spots for him. 

Granlund is just two seasons removed from scoring 67 points and did score 17 goals in 63 games with the Predators in 2019-20 and could be a good addition to either the Jackets or Hurricanes.
