We always expect more from players who were selected in the first round of any NHL draft and the same had been said of forward Stefan Noesen, who was pick 21st overall by the Ottawa Senators back in 2011.

The 26-year-old has just 24 career goals and 45 career points and most of that came in his last full season in 2017-18 when he put up 13 goals and 14 assists in 72 games with the New Jersey Devils.

However, that team did not offer him a qualifying offer this summer and Noesen has been testing the free agent market with very little encouraging results.

Things seem to be looking up though as Sean Shapiro of The Athletic reports that Noesen has been seen skating with the Dallas Stars at an informal skate. Noesen is a Plano, Texas native and hasn’t found a team this off-season and could get the edge being the local kid, working hard to convince the Western Contender.

While Shapiro cannot confirm for now that Noesen will be given a PTO by the Stars, it wouldn’t hurt Dallas to give him a tryout during training camp.

He could be a decent depth option for the Stars if he makes a team.

Noesen cashed in $1.75 million last season with New Jersey and could be a cheap depth player that would be an affordable option on the fourth line or in the minors.
