Five players many fans would welcome to their teams.

The free agent frenzy has died down quite a bit in the National Hockey League but despite that there remain some notable names that could be claimed by NHL franchises looking to fill gaps in their line up.

Almost certainly the three biggest names on the list are all long-time NHL veterans above the age of 40, and despite that most fans and pundits seemingly believe that they will eventually be signed by one team or another. They are forwards Jaromir JagrJarome Iginla and Shane Doan

For teams looking for a slightly younger option, but not much younger, there remains 28-year-old Brian Gionta. Gionta hasn't had nearly as much talk around his name this summer, and it seems like he could potentially have to settle for a professional tryout offer.

Last but not least is perhaps the most surprising name on the list, that of 30-year-old defenseman Cody Franson. Franson has been searching for a long-term deal for several seasons now but has never been able to secure one. This summer has been another disappointment for Franson, and frankly it's somewhat surprising that the puck removing defenseman has not been signed.
