Flames forward has also been ruled out of the World Cup tournament.

The Calgary Flames got some concerning news on Friday.

According to a report from Flames beat writer Wes Gilbertson, Flames forward Sean Monahan has been ruled out of the World Cup of Hockey tournament with what is being labeled a back strain.

Obviously back injuries are always a major concern especially when the player involved has just signed a long-term contract with your organization. There is a silver lining here however, the Flames do not expect this to be a long-term injury and have already stated that they believe Monahan will be ready to go once training camp begins.

This may even have been a case of the Flames preferring to go the safe route with Monahan given his minor injury. Whatever the case Monahan now joins Los Angeles King Jeff Carter and Toronto Maple Leaf Frederik Andersen as players that have been ruled out of the tournament today.
