Flames’ Frolik chickens out of fight with Bruins’ Miller following brutal hit

Can you blame him?!

The Boston Bruins and Calgary Flames went back and forth on Thursday night in an offensive matchup, but a more aggressive part of the game caught the attention of many.

In the second period of the contest, Bruins blue liner Kevan Miller, who was playing in the 300th game of his career, caught Flames’ Michael Frolik off guard when he slammed him into the boards, just over the Calgary team bench. The poor forward bent awkwardly over the board and fell to his knees, but then got straight back up as it looked like he was thinking about dropping the gloves to fight Miller.

The Bruins defender surely looked ready to take him on, staring him down as Frolik moved towards him, however the Flames forward changed his mind. As Miller looked set on dropping the gloves to settle things, Frolik turned around and headed back to the bench.

When the footage of the failed fight went viral, former NHLer Dan Carcillo, who has been criticizing the NHL on their way to handle head trauma and concussions, explained why Frolik probably decided to move way from Miller and abandon the idea of fighting him.

“Kevan Miller = 299  NHL  games played and 22 career fights

Michael Frolik = 752  NHL games played and 0 career fights

Makes sense ,” Carcillo posted on his Twitter account.

It was probably a good idea for Frolik to escape the fight. Pete Blackburn explained it perfectly with this very appropriate meme:
