Calgary Flames prospect Josh Healey isn’t content to play the role of the quiet rookie at his first NHL Development Camp. The 22 year-old NCAA free-agent signing is aiming to make his pro debut with the Flames in 2017-18 and isn’t mincing words when describing his intentions. Check out this quote from Healey made in discussion with Canadian Press writer Darren Haynes:
Flames fans, we think you’re going to like this kid. The 6’, 196 lb defenseman obviously has a nasty side to his game and loves physical play. While he went undrafted, his stellar college career made him a hot commodity on the free-agent market once his season with the Ohio State Buckeyes finished in March.
The Edmonton native put up 25 points and 70 penalty minutes in 35 games with Ohio State last season and managed to work his way into two games for the AHL’s Stockton Heat once signing with the Flames. Look for him to push for big minutes in the AHL in 2017-18 and establish himself as a core piece for the Flames moving forward.
