The Calgary Flames are back on track after a tough spot in November. As you know, former head coach Bill Peters was accused of making racist remarks at former player Akim Aliu during the 2009-10 season with the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL. On top of that were accusations of physical abuse on two players while he was the bench boss with the Carolina Hurricanes.

After he resigned, assistant coach Geoff Ward took over and apparently gave new life and hope to the Flames’ dressing room. On Thursday night, the Flames came from behind to beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-2 and finally, it was in great part because of forward Johnny Gaudreau.

Gaudreau’s first two-goal game of the season was part of three goals in the opening three minutes of the third period as the Flames extended their win streak to seven games. Finally, the monkey is off Gaudreau’s back, but it didn’t stop goalie David Rittich from making fun of his teammate.

Asked after the win if it looks like Gaudreau is back, Rittich had the best answer:

“He still can’t score on me, so I don’t know, is he back?”

You gotta love a good jab at a teammate when things are going well for the team, but players need to remain down to earth.

The goalie is reportedly very good at dressing room jab, and it proved it once again on Thursday after turning away 32 of 34 shots in his fifth straight win.
