Flames still paying Peters despite resignation following racism scandal?!

Some disturbing news came out of the GM’s press conference…

The Calgary Flames held a press conference Friday to confirm head coach Bill Peters was not longer holding the position in the organization.

It was expected. Peters has been accused of making racist remarks at former player Akim Aliu during the 2009-10 season with the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL. On top of that were accusations of physical abuse on two players while he was the bench boss with the Carolina Hurricanes.

However, general manager Brad Treliving made some stunning revelations when answering questions after the announcement that Geoff Ward would become the interim coach of the Flames. The GM refused more than once to reveal if Peters would still get paid by the organization seeing that he was not fired, but resigned.

The lack of answers on that matter has shocked a lot of people who believe Peters should not get a dime more!

While Treliving revealed that the matter was close when it comes to the Flames, the NHL is still investigating the issue and is expected to speak with Aliu in the coming days.

We can get comfort from the fact that Peters resigned and did not get fired by the team, therefore, we would like to assume that he won’t get money from his contract.

However, a settlement might have taken place. We will know more in the coming days we bet!
