Micheal Ferland is back in Calgary tonight, as the Carolina Hurricanes are facing the Flames tonight. What if the gritty forward was to come back to Calgary ahead of the trade deadline?

There have been so many speculations on where Ferland might end the season, despite the fact that the 26-year-old has revealed he would love to stay in Carolina.

“I’d love to stay here,” the  pending free agent told Sportsnet from Carolina. “They’ve told my agent they want me here too.”

However, there are growing talks that Ferland might be traded before Feb. 25 and the Flames are reportedly working at acquiring him back, but there are not the only team looking to get his services. The Vancouver Canucks and the Pittsburgh Penguins are reportedly in the mix as well.

“I’ll tell you this: I think Jim Benning and the Vancouver Canucks would love to get their hands on Micheal Ferland, either through trade or as a free agent because of what he brings. He can be a top-six player, and he is as tough as nails,” explained TSN’s Darren Dreger.

“I would put Vancouver on that list. I’d put Calgary, believe it or not, with interest to get Ferland back, on that list. Winnipeg, Pittsburgh…”

Pens general manager Jim Rutherford isn’t afraid to make bold moves to help his team and fans can already picture Ferland playing next to captain Sidney Crosby.

“Our understanding is that the Penguins have inquired about Micheal Ferland. Boy, he might look very good playing on Sidney Crosby’s wing! Of course, they are not the only team,” added Pierre LeBrun on Tuesday’s edition of TSN Insider Trading.

The Flames are expected to make a call and check on the price for Ferland, who is expected to get a pay raise this summer as a free agent.

“The Calgary Flames will inquire, if they haven’t already, as to what it would take to perhaps start that conversation in re-acquiring Micheal Ferland.”

In the meantime, Ferland revealed in the Sportsnet’s interview that he is excited to play against his former teammates and even mentioned he would drop by “Villa Firenze where all the (Flames) guys go” before the contest.

“We’ll welcome him for sure,” laughed Matthew Tkachuk.“I’ll be good. We’ll say hi and catch up.”

Ferland might be fine with coming back to Calgary, who selected him the  fifth round back in 2010.
