This sounds more and more like a failed trade...

Some people do not react well under pressure and make questionable decisions… which could be what is taking place with Philadelphia Flyers general manager Chuck Fletcher…

Last week, the Flyers traded a fifth-round pick to acquire Kevin Hayes' negotiating rights from the Winnipeg Jets, however, the free agent still hasn’t signed to remain in Philly.

However, Fletcher doesn’t want people to think that he is running out of time so he recently commented how well talks have been going.

"I've had some good preliminary conversations with Kevin and his representation," Fletcher said, per TSN. "This week, I expect to follow up with Kevin and his camp and we'll see where it goes. I don't know how to characterize it other than we've had good conversations and we're hopeful we can find a way to make something work."

He however might have been caught in a lie after AJ Haefele of BSN Denver reported that talks between the two sides "haven't really gone great so far." While he does not completely rule out a deal with Philadelphia, he thinks the Flyers are racing the clock before June 23 when Hayes can begin speaking to other teams.

Fletcher remains confident that he can get Hayes under contract and refuse to believe he would want to test the free-agency market…

“Certainly he's earned that right and we're respectful of that, but I think we have a lot to offer here in Philly. We'll continue to speak to him and he's open-minded to conversations, or at least that's what his camp has said to us and obviously we have strong interest in him."

While Fletcher is allowed to keep the discussions tight-lipped, he shouldn’t be lying to himself if he sees that Hayes is more likely to test the free-agent market…
