The Philadelphia Flyers got some bad news on Saturday night and they will be without one of their players for the next month as a result.

According to a report from Anthony Mingioni of Center Ice Philly veteran Flyers' center Scott Laughton has suffered a serious injury after taking an errant shot off his head. The shot, more of a clearing attempt by Columbus Blue Jackets' defenseman David Savad than a true shot, caught Laughton directly in the hand and caused him to leave Saturday night's game against the Blue Jackets and now the Flyers have confirmed the worst.

According to head coach Alain Vigneault the injury to Laughton is a serious one, a broken finger to be exact, and the Flyers now expect the center to miss at least the next 4 weeks of action as a result of his injury. The timing is rather unfortunate for Laughton who was having himself a decent, if relatively quiet, regular season for the flyers. Laughton had appeared in 9 games for the Flyers during the 2019 - 2020 National Hockey League regular season prior to his injury last night and had contributed no goals and 3 assists on the season for a plus minus rating of 0 thus far.

This was more a freak accident that anything else, but unfortunately it is a freak accident that has cost the Flyers and important piece of their lineup for the foreseeable future.
