If you thought the Philadelphia Flyers would be hitting the reset button this offseason after firing general manager Ron Hextall and head coach Dave Hakstol during the course of the 2018 - 2019 National Hockey League regular season, you may want to guess again.

While it is true that general manager Chuck Fletcher has already made one extremely significant move, a move that came when he made the decision to trade veteran forward Wayne Simmonds rather than sign him to a contract extension or even let him ride out his current deal, for the most part Fletcher has maintained the status quo since taking over the Flyers organization. That being said though it is not easy to make sweeping changes in the middle of an ongoing season and even less so when you have to evaluate your roster on the fly to determine who you want to keep around and who you feel needs to go.

The Flyers have some talented young prospects and players however and many felt that the trade that sent Simmonds to Nashville would signal a big shift in the direction of the Flyers. That being said though the latest reports coming out of Philadelphia would appear to suggest that this is not the plan and that instead the Flyers will continue to push ahead with the intention of winning now, or in as short order as is possible. A recent report from Flyers insider Sam Carchidi appeared to indicate that Fletcher is not content to build towards the future but instead plans to deal assets in order to obtain quality players that could help the Flyers immediately.

Carchidi revealed that Fletcher has been, and is actively, listening to offers for the Flyers first round draft selection at the 2019 National Hockey League Entry Draft and that additionally he is looking for a player that can have an immediate impact.

"if we can get a good player at the right stage of his career and with some term left on his contract, we’d certainly look at it," said Fletcher as per Carchidi's report.

Carchidi has not provided any indication as to what teams may have called Fletcher regarding the pick, or what type of player the Flyers may be targeting in such a trade, but with the draft only days away now we may not have to wait long to see another big move from the Flyers GM.
