Flyers goalie Hart backs down from fight against Wild’s Dubnyk

Probably a good call by the rookie… Dubie is 6 foot 6, 225 pounds.

In a lost season where seemingly nothing has gone right for the Philadelphia Flyers, the lone shining light has been the player of rookie goaltender Carter Hart.

The 20 year old goaltender has looked solid in his first 10 NHL games, posting a 2.70 goals against average and .913 save percentage. The two time CHL Goaltender of the Year has establishing himself as a legitimate NHL goaltender quicker than almost anyone predicted, giving Flyers fans at least SOMETHING to feel good about this season.

It’s been a season of firsts for the rookie, his first career NHL game, his first career NHL win and, last night, he nearly had his first career NHL fight. Say what!?

In last night’s 7-4 Flyers victory over the Minnesota Wild, Flyers goaltender Scott Laughton interfered with Wild goaltender Devan Dubnyk, leading to a skirmish behind the net.

Check it out:

Both Laughton and Dubnyk each received two minute roughing penalties on the play, but Hart admitted afterward that he considered skating the length of the ice to challenge Dubnyk himself.

Probably a good call there, rookie. Dubnyk is six foot six, 225 pounds after all. Hart gives up about four inches and 45 pounds in that scrap… so yeah… good call, rookie.
