The Flyers' rookie defenseman has been brilliant this season and it should come as no surprise that Shayne Gostisbehere is being talked about when it comes to multiple National Hockey League awards.

According to a report from the Courier-Post, Gostisbehere has been named the Philadelphia nominee for the NHL's Masterton Trophy Award, an award that is given each year to a player that "best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey." Gostisbehere was nominated by the Philadelphia chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers Association.

While Gostisbehere's performance on the ice this season certainly merit a nomination, it's the fact that he overcame a major ACL tear just last year, as well as all the doubt about his ability to compete as a professional hockey player due to his smaller size, that make him stand out as a potential winner.

With the Flyers in a tight playoff race Gostisbehere will likely be focused on team accomplishments over potential individual ones, but he certainly is deserving of this nomination.
