The Philadelphia Flyers made a heartbreaking announcement last Friday when the team confirmed that forward Oskar Lindblom will miss the remainder of the season as he has been diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma. Ewing’s sarcoma is a very rare type of cancerous tumor that grows in your bones or the soft tissue around your bones.

The tragic news has brought the team together even more and his teammates have rallied to win games and focus on the recovery of their friend.

On Thursday, Lindblom posted on social media to reveal details on his fight with cancer and how appreciative he was on the support he’s gotten across the National Hockey League.

“The last week has been very challenging for me, but I’m so happy for all the love and strength you all are giving me on this journey. The support has been unreal and we are so thankful for everything - big thanks to all of you, it means a lot.”

Fans in Philadelphia have be greatly supportive of the young forward. The game right after the announcement of his diagnosis, the team left “I Fight For Oskar” signs on every seat, and fans held them during a tribute video for Lindblom. Anaheim Ducks and Flyers players tapped their sticks and fans stood and applauded the brave man who had 11 goals and 18 points in 30 games this season.
