The Flyers have snapped their losing streak with a 5-3 win yesterday against the Hurricanes in Carolina. As they get set for their matchup against the struggling Calgary Flames on home ice tomorrow afternoon, one key player could return to the lineup after an extended period out of the lineup.

We learn today that the Flyers have activated Scott Laughton from the injury reserve. Laughton had only played 9 games the season before suffering from a broken finger which sidelined him for the major part of this young season. He had 3 points so far this season and will be looking to re-establish himself as a solid offensive contributor upon his return which could come tomorrow against the Flames. That being said, nothing has been confirmed as of yet on that front.

Unfortunately, Philadelphia also released some bad news concerning another player that had been sidelined with health concern for an extended period. It was announced that Nolan Patrick was placed on the long-term injury reserve list. This confirms that the 2nd overall pick in the 2017 NHL draft will not return to play anytime soon.

Patrick was suffering from what was disclosed as migraine disorder, complications from his concussion that occurred in early March last season. The Winnipeg-native had 13 goals and 18 assists for a total of 31 points in 72 games last season. He had 13 goals and 17 assists for 30 points in 73 games in 2017-18.

Nolan Patrick is undoubtedly a very talented and promising player. He was absolutely dominant in junior Hockey with the Brandon Wheat Kings and is recognized for his high Hockey IQ and his two-way abilities as well as his offensive skillset. If his full potential is attained, he should become one of the most important players for the Flyers down the line.

However, the length of his remission is worrying to say the least. It appears that Patrick's health may not be getting better and if so, it is a long process. His injury may impede his development as a player, but patience is the key. Let's hope that he recuperates fully from his ailment at that he can not only step back into the lineup and find success, but also recover his full health and well-being.

For now, fans will have to content themselves with the return of Laughton, which is certainly great news for the Flyers. His experience, great work ethic and goal-scoring ability should solidify the team.
