The Flyers' lost one of their top forwards in Game 1 of their first round series against the Washington Capitals, and now that they have been eliminated from the playoffs, the team has revealed just how bad the injury is.

According to a report from Flyers reporter Bill Meltzer the injury,m which was initially reported as a very bad sprain, was actually a grade 2-3 separated shoulder, making it quite obvious why Couturier did not play in any of the subsequent games against Washington. Given the way Couturier held his arm after the hit from Alex Ovechkin had injured him, a separated shoulder was our first guess as well.

Despite the serious nature of the injury, Meltzer reports that Couturier would have made an attempt to play in Game 7, with his shoulder still not fully healed, in order to give his team the best possible shot of advancing.

While fans in Philadelphia won't be happy out of the playoffs, preserving the long term health of a quality player like Couturier could be viewed as somewhat of a silver lining for the club.
