Former 40-goal scorer expected to announce retirement!

Former NHL forward Alexander Semin is reportedly expected to announce his retirement from professionnal hockey, according to CSNNE.com. The 33-year-old has decided to go back to school, and has enrolled "in a full-time master's degree program in Metallurgy of Non-Ferrous Metals at Siberian Federal University," per Russian Machine Never Breaks.

The school published a few photos of the former NHLer on their Instagram account last week, with the description “Alexander Semin: entrant SFU. We are strengthening the university hockey team!”:


Semin played parts of 11 seasons in the NHL with the Washington Capitals, Carolina Hurricanes and Montreal Canadiens, from 2003 to 2016. In 650 career games, he recorded 239 goals and 278 assists for 517 points, as well as 582 penalty minutes. He added 34 points in 51 playoff games, and has never won the Stanley Cup. He scored 38 goals in 2006-07 and 40 in 2009-10.
