The Colorado Avalanche have lost one of their top executives just one year after promoting him.

According to a report from the Denver Post, former Avalanche general manager Greg Sherman has informed the organization of his decision to leave after 15 years with the club.

Former Avalanche general manager Greg Sherman, who remained with the team after being replaced by Joe Sakic in 2014, has moved on to other endeavors, a team spokesman confirmed Tuesday.

Sherman led his team to the playoffs twice during his five year tenure as general manager, and the team has not returned to the postseason since Joe Sakic took over the job.

The report from the post did not make mention of a potential motivation for Sherman's departure.
