Daniel Alfredsson surprised many in July when he abruptly handed in his resignation as senior advisor of hockey operations to the Ottawa Senators

Alfie explained why to the Ottawa Sun during Monday’s Brooke and Friends Pro-Am at the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club.

The 44-year-old  says it’s time “to be a stay-at-home dad for awhile" and be more present for his four children.

“Once school starts, it’s full on with activities with the kids. We’re moving into a new house here in the fall, so we have a lot of planning to do with that. So, it’s going to be a quiet year for me, overall," he added to the Sun.

However, Alfie claims that Ottawa is his home and he is not closing the door to the opportunity of returning to a management position in the future.

Alfredsson spent most of his entire career with the Sens, but was a member of the Detroit Red Wings for his last season in 2012-13.

Alfie recorded 444 goals and a total of 1157 points in 1246 National Hockey League career games.
