Former Habs prospect suspended after slew-footing a referee.

In a controversial ruling from the Kontinental Hockey League this week, a former Montreal Canadiens prospect has been accused of deliberately assaulting a KHL official.

Former Hamilton Bulldogs forward Alexander Avtsin, a player who was drafted by the Habs in the 2009 National Hockey League Entry Draft, received a five-game suspension for allegedly slew-footing a referee during a game he was playing for the KHL's Nizhnekamsk Neftekhimik.

The controversy surrounding the ruling stems from the fact that the KHL believes the slew-foot was a deliberate action, while many have defended the 26-year-old forward claiming that he was clearly trying to avoid the official on the play.

It's a very tough call to make, but you can judge for yourself by watching the replay below.
