Arizona Coyotes president and general manager John Chayka has announced that the team has promoted former Toronto Maple Leafs, Florida Panthers and St. Louis Blues defenseman Mike Van Ryn to the head coaching position of the team’s AHL affiliate Tucson Roadrunners.

“I’m very pleased to name Mike as our new head coach for the Tucson Roadrunners,” said Chayka. “Mike has great knowledge of the game and is an excellent communicator. He did a great job working with and developing our top prospects in Tucson last season and together with John and Steve, will form a very good coaching staff for us.”

Van Ryn joined the Coyotes organization last summer as a development coach after an impressive run with the OHL’s Kitchener Rangers as both a head coach and assistant coach from 2013-15.
