It appears that 2 long time members of the National Hockey League are ready to move on to the next phase of their respective careers.

First according to a report from Swiss Hockey News 38 year old veteran forward Dominic Moore has agreed to sign a new contract with the ZSC Lions of the Swiss National League, effectively cementing his departure from the National Hockey League. The veteran of nearly 900 NHL games last played for the Toronto Maple Leafs during the course of the 2017 - 2018 NHL regular season and although he did not perform particularly poorly he did not receive any NHL offers as a free agent this summer.

I suspect that, give the timing of this decision, Moore was likely holding out and hoping to get an NHL contract or tryout after one NHL team or another suffered some kind of injury up front. That contract offer of course never materialized and now it seems that Moore is more interested in the job security that his contract with the Lions will provide. In 50 games as a leaf last season Moore picked up 6 goals as well as 6 assists for a total of 12 points and finished the season with a plus minus rating of +3.

Also in a very interesting move we have learned that veteran NHL defenseman Jason Garrison is also head overseas although in his case it does seem a little bit more strange. Garrison signed a 1 year deal with the Edmonton Oilers back in October of 2018 and in spite of that teams struggles this season he was never able to find a consistent spot on their roster for any length of time, in fact some criticized the move as yet another blunder on the part of Oilers general manager Peter Chiarelli

Garrison would eventually be traded to the Chicago Blackhawks in the deal involving Brandon Manning but the suspicion was that he was moved purely to make the dollar value of the contracts moving both ways add up. That does in fact appear to be the case as Garrison would go on to play in a total of 0 games for the Blackhawks before eventually being tossed onto the waiver wire. It seems the Blackhawks never really wanted him and now he has signed on with Djurgardens IF of the Swedish Hockey League.
