It is official: defenseman Alexey Marchenko has returned to his former team and signed a three-year contract with the CSKA Moscow of the KHL on Wednesday.

Marchenko, who was placed on waivers by the Toronto Maple Leafs Monday, had mentioned he hoped to eventually come back to the National Hockey League. However, the wait might be longer.

Marchenko played 11 games with the Leafs last season, and recorded a goal and an assist.

The Russian defenseman was selected in the seventh round by Detroit Red Wings in the 2011 NHL Draft. He has played 121 games, in which he recorded four goals and 21 points overall. Prior to the draft, Marchenko spent four years with CSKA Moscow, tallying four goals and 11 points in 83 games.
