The Ottawa Senators faced the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday in the first game of the 2019-20 season and the latter club had more than just a victory in store for their opponents.
During the contest, the Maple Leafs put up a video tribute for former players who are now a member of the Senators. Despite spending time on a video to acknowledge their presence and hard work in Toronto, some players didn’t seem to care all that much…
According to Bruce Arthur who was present at the game, “Ron Hainsey ignored the video tribute, Nikita Zaitsev seemed nonplussed, Tyler Ennis waved, DJ Smith looked up, and Connor Brown, bless him, raised his stick in acknowledgement from the penalty box.”
The video might have been too much for some… After all, the Maple Leafs chose the track Mambo No.5 to honour the five men...
To make matters worse for Hainsey, his goal - who would have given the Senators the 3-2 lead before it all went to shreds - had his tally overturned due to offside.
Toronto ended up defeating the Senators 5-3 in the curtain-raiser on the 2019-20 NHL campaign.
