Former Maple Leafs enforcer has a major career change.

The NHL has changed drastically over the past few years: teams now focus on skill and speed instead of on goons and fights.

It is fair to say there would not be any spot on the current Maple Leafs roster for former enforcer Nathan Perrott. But it doesn’t matter to him: he decided to fight in a ring instead of on the ice.

Perrott is set to fight for the first time since September 11, 2009—that is seven years ago—on May 19, in Mississauga. It will be his fourth professional fight: he won his first, but lost his last two. His opponent will be the 27-year-old Bradley Hamil, who has more amateur boxing experience than him.

Perrott was drafted 44th overall in 1995 by the New Jersey Devils. He played 89 NHL games with the Nashville Predators, the Leafs and the Dallas Stars, racking up 251 penalty minutes. He also recorded 268 penalty minutes in 60 games with the Leafs’ AHL affiliates back in 2004-05.
